If Treble was good at one thing, it was getting his rider's attention; the Kommo-o started rattling the scales on his right arm, the tactile feedback immediately getting Shalin's attention. "What's up?" she asked, looking in the direction the fighting-type pointed. Sticking out of the tall grass was the tail of a Treecko. She mused at the thought of riding a Sceptile. They had amazing mobility, and could swing from trees more efficiently than many primate-like Pokémon could. They were fantastic climbers, too, able to run on all four or stand on just their hind legs.

Unlike many of her Pokémon, which she could ride with no gear if need be, a saddle would be absolutely required to be astride a Sceptile. The giant seeds on their backs were right where she would want to sit, and their upright stance meant it had to be unevenly crafted. This made the gear not only much more expensive, but heavier. The cost of such a commission outweighed the value of the experience; as such, she decided to continue past it.

As Treble tromped forward in excitement, Shalin's eyes shifted at the sheer biodiversity on just this one trail. The Safari Zone had so many different trails it rotated among throughout the year. She would have to come back here every month she could! The trail took her away from a tall prairie and toward a rocky crag.

As Shalin absentmindedly guided her dragon-type past a Torchic the happened to be looking away from, Treble rattled the scales right underneath Shalin, startling her. "Whoa!" she cried, feeling like she was on a jackhammer for a split second. "What's up, Treble?" The Kommo-o pointed to a Torchic peering down from a nest on the level above the trail the two were on. "Those aren't the kind of Pokémon I want to catch. Next time, not so hard, okay?" Her hips were thumping from the sudden and powerful rumble.

Once Shalin's hips had started to recover from the strong shaking, Treble jogged down the mountain trail and toward a nearby marsh. The trail gradually turned from water to dirt to mud. getting his rider's legs wet and dirty. Nothing a quick dip in a freshwater river or lake couldn't fix afterward, though!

As the Kommo-o bounded along the trail, he had accumulated enough mud around his legs that he felt the need to loose a low-power but high-frequency CLANGING SCALES. Shalin's entire frame was tingling just from the feedback that ran through her mount's scaly body. This was more like it! When the vibration stopped, she gave the fighting-type a gentle pat on the head. continuing past a Mudkip that was frightened of the loud noise.

The active trail led Shalin and Treble away from the wetlands where she found the Mudkip and toward a wasteland area. While it didn't stretch for miles like true wastelands did, it was large enough that it would take the Kommo-o a while to cross it. The biodiversity of the Safari Zone was incredible; it was like being able to go anywhere in Hoenn in a matter of minutes rather than hours!

The sound of a thud caught the attention of mount and rider, the young female spotting a Bagon that had just crashed into the hard, cracked ground after a vain attempt to fly. Feeling bad for it, she sprinkled a package of Pokémon bait the Warden had provided her prior to entry, letting the young dragon-type it get its fill before flicking a Safari Ball its way. If she had anything to say about it, she would make sure the little one would get to live its dream of flying, perhaps even before it grew into a Salamence!

Shalin could tell just from the sound of her Kommo-o's footfalls when the ground fully transitioned from an arid wasteland to a lush plains. She could feel the dragon-type's footfalls become less harsh, leaving footprints beneath the bright grass. The preserve's entrance was in sight, too; her Safari Game was almost over. She would have to come back here more often!

Frolicking about the short grasses were several Eevee surrounding a much larger one. This was what drew her to the Safari Zone in the first place: reports of several giant Eevee. She had found out rather quickly that Prance, her Wyrdeer was incapable of teleporting. An Espeon that evolved from an Eevee that size, though, could be trained to carry her and teleport! She dismounted Treble, covered her ears, and commanded him to charge toward the center of the pack while sounding his CLANGING SCALES. Every single scale on his body started vibrating like a rattlesnake's tail, stunning the large Eevee and causing the rest who didn't faint to immediately scatter. Shalin could feel the intense air disturbance from the distance she stood. By the time she could get close enough to toss a Safari Ball, the wild leaped forward and sprayed a point-blank wave of SWIFT in her partner's face. She pitched the in-hand Safari Ball as the Eevee was turning around to flee.
